Jason Manford sees how Quaker Oats provide a warming breakfast for those in need at Brinnington Hub
As this winter has been tough, and not everyone has access to a warm and nutritious breakfast to start their day, Quaker Oats are on a mission to Share The Warmth, by partnering with charities Magic Breakfast and FareShare to donate up to 2.5 million warm breakfasts to communities across the UK who really need it.
In Stockport, visitors to the Brinnington Hub, can be assured of a warm, hearty welcome – come and have a chat and brew, enjoy a warm bowl of porridge, a sandwich a hot chocolate or visit the hub to keep warm and safe whilst accessing the services the big local tailored and brought to Brinnington.

The warm hub is based at Unit 2, Berwick Parade, Brinnington and is managed by the Brinnington Big Local committee.
The Big Local committee is a blend of residents who bring to life services and projects based on community needs, who inform via consultations, events or via dropping in to the hub. The hub was officially opened by Andy Burnham.
The Big Local received funding from SMBC to become a warm hub in November 2022; Quaker provided funding to enhance the provision. Both funding streams have facilitated the opening of the hub six days per week, attracting around 65 people each week.

Feedback has included those who have previously been socially isolated and have met like minded people to share learning and experiences. We have received feedback that it has helped to build self-confidence with access to Owls, a domestic abuse service, Citizens advice and most recently a men’s mental health provision.
All the activities are volunteer-led by the Big Local’s chair Julie Loftus and Lucy Eyles (a big local committee member). People can simply drop in between 10-3pm Monday to Thursday, 10-2pm on a Friday and 11-12pm on a Saturday.
“It was a joy to welcome Jason Manford who visited the hub as part of his collaboration with Quaker and Groundwork, to promote the importance of warm hubs within communities. He really lifted spirits and heard why the hub is so much more than a warm hub. It has quickly become the heart of the community.”
