Mama Flo’s serving free meals to school children
Florence Coke has been hailed a community hero after serving free meals to school children during the summer holidays from her take-away shop in Great Moor.
Florence, who has been the proud owner of Mama Flo’s tiny takeaway in Great Moor since 2013, is famous for her authentic and fantastic Caribbean-themed dishes and is regularly visited by celebrities from Manchester’s two premier clubs. Both Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker (pictured) are regular visitors as reported in the Manchester Evening News
But while she loves seeing so many famous faces dropping in to savour her food, Flo also appreciates how hard it can be financially for families during the long summer school holidays when children are off school and missing out on their main meal of the day. Meals are available between 12.30 – 3pm from Tuesday to Friday.

Writing on her Facebook page, Flo wrote:
Hi everyone happy Tuesday am looking forward to see the kids out today it’s wet today but rain can’t stop the show! “Also to Gayle and Steph and Karen Martin for all these treats Tuesday will be another fantastic week for the kids also we collected £53 pounds in tips from customers so u do the sums this is awesome and I am dead happy thanks soooo much because every pennies will be spend for these kids.“Cost of living is high and it’s gonna gets even harder. Wages can’t meet with paying bills and food cost is just crazy but keep strong for your kids I will do as much as I can for all these kids..Have a beautiful day and remember help one person that’s struggling today it can makes a big difference.
