Stockport town centre retains Purple Flag for seventh year in a row
Stockport has once again been given the Purple Flag award in recognition of the town’s vibrant and safe night‑time economy.
The award champions places that offer a lively mix of culture, food and entertainment between 5pm and 5am and Stockport continues to shine.
This year’s success reflects major milestones: the hugely popular Stockroom, now attracting around 100,000 visits a month; a refreshed, modern image for the town; and the rollout of LSAVI, a nationally recognised safety and vulnerability training programme already adopted by several venues. New quarterly briefings for hospitality businesses are strengthening collaboration even further.
Inspector Jason Holmwood said:
“Retaining the Purple Flag accreditation is a testament to the continued partnership between GMP, Stockport Council and local businesses. We have worked tirelessly to ensure Stockport remains a safe and welcoming place for residents and visitors.”
Purple Flag towns typically see higher footfall and lower crime – and Stockport is no exception. Over the past year, 10 new venues have opened, footfall continues to rise, and events like Foodie Friday are drawing thousands. The town has also been named Foodie Neighbourhood of the Year and one of Time Out’s best UK places to visit.
First accredited in 2019, Stockport has now retained Purple Flag status every year since, cementing its reputation as one of Greater Manchester’s most exciting destinations after dark.
