Stockport Council encourages support for local business on Small Business Saturday
Taking place on Saturday 7th December, Cllr Colin Macalister is encouraging residents to shop locally this Christmas and to support Stockport’s small businesses as part of Small Business Saturday.
Cllr Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“With Christmas fast approaching, there’s never been a better time to support Stockport’s fantastic small businesses. Our recent Stockport Spectacular Sunday was a huge success, bringing in crowds and giving our local economy a welcome boost. Events like this remind us how important it is to shop, eat, and spend locally—it really does make a difference.
“This Saturday, 7 December, is Small Business Saturday, a nationwide campaign celebrating small, independent businesses of all kinds. Stockport is home to an incredible variety of small businesses, from unique shops and restaurants to skilled service providers and creative professionals. Whether you’re hunting for the perfect gift, treating yourself to a delicious meal, or in need of expert local services, there’s something for everyone right here in our community.
“Shopping locally doesn’t just keep businesses thriving, it also benefits the environment by reducing unnecessary travel. Every pound spent in the community supports local employees, suppliers, and the wider area. In fact, if every household spent just £1 a week locally, it would mean £6 million going back into local businesses each year.”
