New study shows Stockport in top 10 cities and towns with the cosiest pubs
Research has found Stockport ranked ninth in the UK for having some of the cosiest pubs of towns and cities of over 100,000 people.
GG.co.uk created a list of the best-rated pubs with fireplaces in 73 major UK town and city.
They analysed Google ratings and pub information available through UseYourLocal.com across every town and city with populations of at least 100,000. Each town or city then received an overall cosiness score based on how many of these pubs with real fire also featured large TV screens, showed horse racing, football, cricket or rugby or had a Sky Sport or TNT Sports connection.
Gateshead in the North-east topped the league table as the cosiest place in the UK for pubgoers, with a cosiness score of 98.99%, boasting 33 pubs with fireplaces to choose from per 100,000 residents. Blackburn in Lancashire scored in second place scoring 83.22%, with High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire scoring 73.77%.
Stockport, ranked 9th, had an overall cosiness score of nearly 70% with 13.37% of pubs
with fireplaces per 100,000 residents.
Unsurprisingly, the UK’s major cities, including Edinburgh, Manchester, London, Glasgow and Birmingham where pubs with fireplaces are less prevalent, have been deemed to have the least cosy pubs.
Steve Chambers, Editor for GG.co.uk, said:
“You just cannot beat that cosy pub feeling that only smaller towns can offer Big cities cannot compete with the warmth of less busy towns when your favourite team is playing. If you are visiting any of these places, make sure you save this cheat sheet for the cosiest pubs in every major town and city.”
