Stockport celebrates Black History Month 2024: Reclaiming our narrative

The Stockport Race Equality Partnership (SREP) is excited to announce a vibrant lineup of events this October to celebrate Black History Month 2024.

Get ready, Stockport! The Stockport Race Equality Partnership (SREP) is excited to announce a vibrant lineup of events this October to celebrate Black History Month 2024. This year’s theme, “Reclaiming our narrative,” is all about embracing our stories, our history, and our identity—and everyone is invited to join in the festivities!

SREP is dedicated to supporting ethnic minority groups in Stockport, but we believe that celebrating our diverse heritage is for everyone! Whether you’re from Stockport or beyond, let’s come together to honour Black culture, achievements, and resilience.

Aba Graham, Director of Stockport Race Equality Partnership said: “Black History Month is a time to reflect, celebrate, and educate, not just about the past but also about our present and future. This year’s theme, Reclaiming Narratives, is deeply personal for many in our community. It’s about owning our stories, ensuring they are told with truth and dignity, and recognising the vital role Black individuals and communities play in shaping our shared history. Black History Month is not just for the Black community; it’s a time for everyone to come together, learn, and build a more inclusive future.”
