Read how St Ann’s Hospice celebrated Hospice Care Week
Last week, St Ann’s Hospice celebrated Hospice Care Week (9th-15th October 2023) – an opportunity to celebrate all the work St Ann’s Hospice does – and the people who help to provide the best end-of-life care possible.
During the week, St Ann’s caught up with some of their wonderful members of staff to find out what they enjoy most about working at St Ann’s Hospice.
Peter Langdon, IT Assistant, has worked at St Ann’s for one year.
“Having had a family member attend St Ann’s as a patient in the 1970s, I feel as though I am giving something back by working for the hospice. Every day is varied and there are always challenges to resolve and help with.”
Hayley Swanson started working at St Ann’s Hospice as a bank Health Care Assistant 20 years ago
“I love meeting all the different people that come to St Ann’s and to help the patients and their families. It can be the little things that can make a big difference – like helping a person put on their makeup to make them feel valued and more like their normal self.”
Catering Assistant Wendy Barker is based at our Heald Green hospice and started working with us four years ago.
“I enjoy working as part of a team and helping to make a difference to the patients and their families that we care for. I am looking forward to the new hospice in Heald Green and a better future for St Ann’s.”
Rebecca Grant, People & Education Administrator, works across both of our hospice sites in Heald Green, Stockport and Little Hulton, Salford.
“For me it’s the people, the warm and friendly staff make my job easier as its always a pleasure when people pop into the office.”
Staff Nurse Ann-Marie Higney has been part of the team for the past seven years.
“I really enjoy helping our patients and supporting them to get the most out of every day. It is really fulfilling to help them achieve their potential. It surprises some people that working at a hospice isn’t always about sadness and loss and that it is actually a really positive and happy place to be.”
Maintenance Driver Stephen Davidson has been a part of our team for the last 12 years, after starting with us as a volunteer.
“It is always in the back of my mind with whatever I do at work, that everything I am doing is for the benefit of patients and helps them even in the smallest way. That makes everything I do worthwhile.”
Jo Laidlaw, Hospice@Home Team Leader, has worked at St Ann’s for 10 years.
“It is a pleasure and a privilege to be allowed into people’s homes to help to support them to be cared for at home. It is their wish to stay at home and it means so much to be able to be part of the team that allows them to achieve this.”
