Stockport teams up with goal to recruit the next generation of foster carers
To coincide with the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament which kicked off on 20 July, Stockport Council’s fostering service have teamed up with other local authorities in a campaign to recruit a new generation of foster carers.
24 local council fostering teams have re-formed Local Councils United – a virtual league, with each team showcasing their football inspired films to cheer on the benefits of fostering for your local council.
Football players, foster carers, young people, and staff are all featured in the film clips, which will play out each day on social media during the World Cup campaign with the hashtags #FosterGreatness and #FosterWithYourCouncil
Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Education said
“This is a really simple and fun way of roaring on the Lionesses in the World Cup, while highlighting the benefits of fostering for your local council.
“Being a foster carer is a great thing to do and it makes a real difference to the lives of thousands of children every day. We do have a shortage of foster carers in Stockport and are looking to recruit around 20 more families this year. If you’re interested in becoming a foster carer, please get in touch with the team.”
Stockport’s film was filmed at Stockport County, featuring County Player Antoni Sarcevic along with footage from the Lionesses game earlier in the year. The film also features local Stockport foster carers, care leavers and staff from the fostering team. It will be featured on 31 July but for people who can’t wait, it can be viewed on YouTube.
People can catch all the highlights along the way or track the campaign here.
People can also follow the campaign on Facebook and support your local fostering team as it travels across the country.
