Stitching to victory! Self Care Creatives win £500 at Chapati’n’Change
Congratulations go to Steph and Self Care Creatives for winning the latest Proper Good seed funding pot of £500.
Steph runs thread journaling workshops as a mindfulness activity to support people struggling with mental illness.
Thread journaling is the art of using thread to represent and record your everyday experiences as miniature stitches. Classes are centred on capturing memories and practicing gratitude through active mediation, whilst developing skills, building confidence and a community.
The money will be spent on Thread Journal Course & Kits to support a new group of participants (there is a waiting list for Steph’s courses). The free embroidery sessions will happen on 1st August and 12th September. There are a limited number of spaces available for Stockport residents who identify as parents or carers in need of some creative self care time to themselves. People can book on via www.SelfCareCreatives.com
Steph says
“We are so excited to use this funding to help parents struggling with post natal anxiety and depression in the Stockport through creative self care workshops.
I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us at the Proper Good community soup event. The other 2 pitchers were amazing and it’s really humbling to have so many people backing this idea.
If there are any local community groups interested in finding out more about our creative self care sessions, we’d love to hear from you at hello@SelfCareCreatives.com.”
This is the fourth in a series of grassroots fundraising events, aiming to give communities the power to allocate seed-funding that will provide a crucial step for local Social Entrepreneurs to develop their enterprise. Food was provided by newly launched community-led multicultural cafe, Arabian Twilight Cafe – another local initiative.
Part of the Proper Good Stockport programme, the event gives local residents, businesses and fellow social entrepreneurs the chance to find out about the homegrown ideas happening on their doorstep; whilst also supporting entrepreneurs to get vital pitching experience, contacts and more in a supportive environment.
Also pitching were Fairweather Adventures and Riverside Cafe + Icy Bar CIC.
This event was sponsored by Manchester based accountancy business, Tobass.
