Seashell celebrate 200th birthday!

Stockport’s Seashell Trust has celebrated 200 years since the charity was established!

Since 11th June 1823, Seashell has evolved to cater for children and young adults with the most complex learning difficulties, disabilities, and additional communication needs from across the country.

Over the last 200 years, Seashell has been able to provide children and young adults with specialist education, care and support at their outstanding school and college, their residential homes, and through health and wellbeing services and community facilities.

Their first major donor was John Pendlebury of Eccles Old Road, Salford, whose legacy gift of £27,000 in 1881 – worth approximately £2.5million today! This incredible donation enabled the Seashell charity to extend its school – located at that time in Old Trafford to accommodate more children, better facilities and educational staff.

That legacy continues to this day and we are incredibly grateful to a whole host of amazing individuals, organisations, trust and foundations who we are proud to call friends of Seashell. With your support, we can continue on our mission to ensure children and young adults with complex needs are able to access inclusive opportunities and prepare for a happy and fulfilled adult life.

Seashell are so proud of their journey – read more about it here.
