The world and Stockport celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla Queen Consort

This weekend sees the coronation of HRH King Charles III and HRH Camilla Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey where Kings and Queens have been crowned since the days of William the Conqueror in 1066.

This Saturday 6th May, events will begin early in central London to ensure that everything and everyone is in their correct locations followed by the main events of the day:

09.30 – 2,000 guests will begin to arrive at Westminster Abbey
10.30 – The royal procession will leave Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey
11.00 – The Coronation ceremony will begin, concluding 2 hours later
13.00 – The much larger procession will leave Westminster Abbey for Buckingham Palace
13.45 – The Royal Salute will take place
14.15 – Members of the royal family will join King Charles III and Queen Camilla on the balcony to see the crowds and the historic flypast that is expected to take around 7 minutes

Rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry, the Service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, reflecting the role of a more modern Monarch in today’s world while looking towards the future.

Across the Coronation Weekend, communities across the UK, and the world, will be celebrating together:
Sunday May 7th is being promoted by the Palace as “The Big Lunch” encouraging communities to come together and hold events and lunches/street parties.
On Sunday evening, beginning at 8pm, a special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios.
Monday May 8th is a bank holiday and is being promoted as “The Big Help Out” encouraging people to volunteer in their local communities. The Big Help Out seeks to match people wanting to explore volunteering opportunities with around 1500 charities and organisations, who need to increase their numbers. There is a downloadable app to ease this matching process, and a mass of useful information on the Royal website, including a link to a dedicated site for Big Help Out.
