Romiley’s Coronation Street Party attracts national media attention and support from C&C

Romiley’s Coronation Street Party attracts national media attention and support from C&C

It’s estimated that well over 3,000 street parties took place to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, on Sunday 7th May. And one of the largest must have taken place almost right outside C&C’s front door of their head office in Romiley!

The sun shone on a spectacular event, which at one point had around 2,000 people picnicking, drinking, dancing, chatting and playing. That’s the same number of guests that were packed into Westminster Abbey for the main event. Not bad for a community bash, based around a borough High Street! And just like the main event, there were plenty of royals in attendance, right down to King Charles Spaniels in the dog show.

C&C Insurance Brokers were proud to arrange and cover the Public Liability insurance for the event, as well as donate to help cover some of the costs of organising such a spectacular gathering. And it would be remiss not to pass on special congratulations to Ruby the collie, for winning the Best In Show award at the dog show – sponsored by C&C!

Helen Pidd, one of the organisers says:

“What a special day! It was fabulous to see so many people from Romiley come together for a huge community picnic right in the middle of what is usually our busiest street. Many people embraced our dual fancy dress theme – Coronation Street or the coronation — with several Bet Lynches, two Jack Duckworths, a few Deirdre Barlows and three Hilda Ogdens. Thank you to C&C Insurance for insuring us and generously donating to make the day such a wonderful success.”

Malcolm Cooke, MD of C&C says:

“It’s fantastic that we were able to contribute to something that embraced the warmth and friendliness of local community spirit, right here in Romiley. It’s not about whether people are royalists, republicans, or wrestling with their opinions somewhere in between. This party was about bringing people together; not so much to build our sense of local community, but to spotlight it. It’s out there – it exists. It’s easy to forget that sometimes, given the challenges the world is facing. But things like this remind us of the power of collective effervescence that comes from meeting up with friends, neighbours and people who generally share our community space and values. Huge congratulations and respect go to the organisers of what was a top-drawer event – something which will be remembered for decades to come.”

The event also attracted local media attention with coverage on BBC North West TonightBBC Online, the Manchester Evening NewsMancunian Matters and The Guardian.
