The future is bright for Stockport Metro swimmers

Stockport Metro’s junior swimmers are celebrating after an exceptional performance at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield.  

Over six days of racing, Stockport Metro, which trains at Life Leisure Grand Central, saw eight swimmers racing against the best senior swimmers in the country – recording 16 personal bests (PBs) and six seasons best (SBs) times.

Among the stars were seventeen-year-old Reece Grady, from Macclesfield
and Amy West, age 19, from Stockport.

Reece qualified for the 400, 800 and 1500 finals finishing as the second Junior swimmer in all three events.

Reece also made the consideration times for the European Junior Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games in the 400 Free (3.54), 800 Free (8.07) and just missed the 1500 Free (15.34) after a 16 second PB.

Amy has qualified for the Paris Final of the British Championships (under 23s) in the 200 Free and 100 Free where she dropped below 57.00  for the first time.

There were also PBs for Fin Pope, Colleen Devlin, Sophie Traill, Kaiden Welsby, Evie Clare and SBs for Luke Critchlow.

Rick Hall, head of performance swimming at Life Leisure, said:

“Well done to all our swimmers, they did a fantastic job.

All our swimmers train extremely hard for 20 hours a week and were justly rewarded for their efforts. The atmosphere on the day was electric and for eight swimmers – more than 70per cent- to record 16PBs is absolutely fantastic.”
