TfGM’s bikes for key workers benefits NHS staff at Stepping Hill
All of these bikes went to NHS colleagues in trusts and hospitals across GM including at Stockport’s Stepping Hill hospital who took delivery of some of the bikes from local business, CERA Cyloan.
Since May TfGM have loaned or given away nearly 500 bikes to NHS workers, working with local suppliers, Halfords and GM Moving.
Throughout the pandemic, TfGM has worked with partners to identify needs that they could fulfil, to support those that needed it, including supplying bikes to key workers.
Loaning TfGM’s 50 pool bikes led to sourcing and distributing 200 refurbished bikes (to keep), leading to work with Halfords and GM Moving to supply 200 more bikes, which have seen an extension on their loan until the spring to continue so vital NHS staff can be supported through the current lockdown.
All of these bikes went to NHS colleagues in trusts and hospitals across GM including at Stockport’s Stepping Hill hospital who took delivery of some of the bikes from local business, CERA Cycloan.
Stockport based CERA Cycloan, a local social enterprise have worked in partnership with TfGM previously including providing free bikes for jobseekers and apprentices. Through TfGM, they also provided some of the refurbished bikes to Stepping Hill. Throughout the pandemic, CERA Cycloan have had funding for free NHS service bikes and have contributed to other local initiatives. Operating in tandem, CERA Cycloan Bike Shop, Bike Repair Service and Alternative Education Provider on Swallow Street and PT Powder Coatings, specialist power coaters coatings have worked together to bring 6 bikes back to showroom condition and donated them to eager young cyclists. They have had funding for free NHS bike services during Covid, including maintenance courses.
