Find a warm welcome across Stockport this winter

Find a warm welcome across Stockport this winter

Warm spaces at Stockport libraries

That includes all of Stockport’s libraries, where you can rest and relax, enjoy a hot drink, connect with others and take part in activities. You can also find help and devices to get online and access information about local services and support. Library opening times are available on Stockport Council’s libraries directory.

If you’re unable to make it to the library in person, you can join the council’s free Home Library Service, which brings the joy of reading directly into residents’ homes. Library staff and volunteers handpick books, audiobooks and DVDs based on your preferences and deliver them in person to your doorsteps. The service is open to people of all ages as well as full-time carers.

Warm spaces at Stockroom

You can also shake off the cold this winter at Stockroom, Stockport’s new creative and cultural venue in the heart of Merseyway. Open 7 days a week and with a library, children’s learning space, café, studios and the Stockport Council Archives, Stockroom is the perfect place to connect, create and explore, or just curl up with a good book in a quiet corner.

Every Monday, you can enjoy a free hot drink and biscuit at Stockroom’s winter board games get together, from 10am to 12 noon. Visit the Stockroom website to find more free activities.

Warm spaces at community hubs

During the week, Life Leisure is also offering free Brew and a Biscuit sessions across the borough, as well as community clubs at their Brinnington Park Hub. Open to everyone, they’re a great opportunity for you to connect with people in your local community.

Young people can enjoy warm, welcoming spaces of their very own at dedicated youth nights across the borough, including Stockroom. These free evenings offer safe, supportive environments where young people can relax, socialise and get involved in activities.

Visit the council’s events calendar to find these and more warm spaces.

Councillor Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection, said:

“As it gets colder, our residents can visit their local library and community hubs as they are again becoming warm spaces over the winter.

“The dedication and time that volunteers and staff put into making these spaces welcoming and supportive is incredible – thank you to everyone who plays a part in making this happen.

“We know winter can be tough, especially for our older residents, and we want to be there for them every step of the way.

“Whether it’s a hot drink, a fun activity, or just a friendly face, these warm spaces are here to help keep Stockport warm and connected this winter.”

Find more support this winter

Warm Spaces form part of Stockport Live Well, making Stockport a great place to live by building stronger communities, providing early help and support closer to home and helping people live happier, healthier lives.

In addition to these Warm Spaces, we’re working with partners to put in place a wide range of initiatives to help Stockport residents stay warm and well through the winter.
