Bramhall Park Gets Life-Saving Upgrade Thanks to Local Family’s Inspiring Efforts
Visitors to Bramhall Park may have noticed a bright yellow addition outside The Stables Café this week – a new defibrillator cabinet that’s helping to make the park a safer place for everyone.
Installed just in time for Love Parks Week, the cabinet now contains a dual adult/child defibrillator thanks to the efforts of local community members and a family with a powerful reason to give back. The new device is the result of a heartfelt fundraising effort by the family of Bob Currie, who suffered a cardiac arrest after completing a Parkrun in the park. Quick-thinking fellow runners and a nearby defibrillator saved his life that day.
In honour of that moment and to help ensure others have the same chance, Bob’s wife, Janet Currie, worked tirelessly to raise money for the new equipment—securing raffle prizes and rallying community support. Their son, Jonathan, also played a vital role by running a marathon while proudly sporting the Defibulous logo, helping to raise awareness and funds.
Councillor Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways and Transport Services said:
“We are thrilled to see the new lifesaving equipment in place. This Love Parks Week, Bramhall Park isn’t just a place to relax and enjoy nature – it’s also a shining example of what community spirit and determination can achieve.”
The defibrillator is fully portable and available 24/7. In an emergency, anyone can access it by calling 999 – the operator will provide a code to open the case, and the defib itself gives clear voice instructions to guide users through the process.
Park regulars are encouraged to download the free what3words app to help emergency services locate incidents quickly within the park’s large grounds. Every second counts in a cardiac arrest, and having precise coordinates can save crucial time.
