Award-winning Dementia Disco stepping up for a news season of events!

Kate Darby of Stockport’s Dementia Disco has lots of news to share as she and the team gear up for a new season of music, dancing and fun!

Kate is now CEO!

Kate is now CEO of the Dementia Disco, thanks to The Fore, who have provided the funding to enable her to become CEO. The Fore’s mission is ‘To turbo-charge exceptional small charities that are transforming lives and society’ and Kate feels very privileged to be one of their chosen charities.

“I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to grow and develop the disco and to do this as my job is the cherry on top. My son started school in September and although I’ve loved being a stay at home mum during the pre school years, I am now ready to start this new chapter.”

Volunteer at a Dementia Discos!

One of Kate’s goals for the upcoming year is to increase the number of discos across the Stockport area. In order to do this she needs more volunteers. KAte will be at the Sector 3 Volunteer Fair on 18th September 9am-4pm in the Merseyway Shopping Centre (outside Specsavers). If you’re interested in volunteering for her amazing charity then come and find the Dementia Disco table for a chat. If you can’t make the event then you can find out more on our volunteer page or you can contact Kate here.

Find out more about support available for sufferers of dementia and their carers

If you’re interested in attending a disco and want to find out more about it, Kate will be at the Viaduct Care Event on Wednesday 25th September 10am-3pm at the Ladybridge Connect in Cheadle Hulme – see poster below.

This is an opportunity for people living with dementia to find out about all the wonderful support groups and resources that are available in the Stockport area. Kate will be on hand to tell you more!

Mobile Discos in Care Homes

Among Kate’s many goals is to launch Mobile Discos in Care Homes. They have been trialing this with two Stockport care homes over the summer and the feedback has been really positive.

“It was lovely to see the residents out of their chairs, smiling and dancing. If you’re a care home and are interested in learning more then you can reach out to me here.”

Fundraising Event

Kate is organising their first fundraising event with details to follow soon but it will certainly involve live music and dancing!

Updated website:

Changes to the Dementia Disco’s website have made it easier to use, easier to interact with, and ultimately better to serve the community. If you have a moment it would be great if you could check it out here
