Cale Green Park Tennis Programme Serves an Ace at LTA Annual Awards
We Do Tennis picked up the Parks Award at the Cheshire LTA Annual Awards for its free tennis coaching programme in partnership with the Fred Perry Trust at Stockport’s Cale Green Park.
The programme has run over summer and autumn for 20 weeks for 100 children, culminating in a fun team challenge tournament, including a Splat! Tournament for younger children, supporting them to play points even at an early age.
The programme reaches beyond the park with ongoing community outreach taster sessions by We Do Tennis coaches in local schools for all year groups.
Councillor Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways & Transport Services, said:
“It’s fantastic that the programme has been recognised by Cheshire LTA, as its main aim is to widen participation in tennis in Davenport, making it easier for children who haven’t played the sport before to pick up a racquet and start playing.
“It’s not a one-off programme, the sessions will become a regular coaching programme for those that want to keep playing, making use of our fantastic resources and keeping children fit and healthy.”
Andy Moss, Head of Parks at We Do Tennis, said:
“It was an honour to receive the award, and the support from the Fred Perry Trust has been fantastic in bringing tennis into the community. The children who have taken part in the Cale Green Park programme have been extremely enthusiastic and show real passion and talent for tennis. Being able to bring this game to more children is a huge perk of the job and extremely rewarding.”
The good news continues: as a Cheshire winner, the programme will be entered into the LTA regional awards. And proposals are being discussed to expand the programme next year.
