Welcome Back to Starting Point’s DigiKnow Champions weekly newsletter

After a period of rest following the uncertainties that the Covid pandemic brought about, Woodley based charity Starting Point has re-introduced their weekly newsletter.

Stockport’s ambition is get everyone better connected by giving everyone access to the Internet and providing support so everyone can join in. Starting Point’s weekly newsletter lets everyone know the latest news in the digital world. Here are a few snippets from the latest newsletter:

Digiknow what’s new?

  • Stockport Homes have secured support for Digital Champions and will shortly be able to offer volunteer laptops to digital champions supporting older people, through the leading library.
  • James from Starting Point is attending an event at the House of Lords this week to ensure internet service providers continue to support the Databank, that supports those who can’t afford broadband to get online.
  • The network is starting to look at Get Online Week in October, part of a month of celebrations. If you want to get involved in the conversation, get in touch.
  • Good Things Foundation have launched the Digital Employability Playbook. The guide will help community organisations and groups support communities to help them on the path to employability. Find out more here.

This week’s latest guide looks at using Technology when travelling

DigiKnow Training:
Starting Point have just launched a new DigiKnow Friends training which is an authorised badged course. In this friendly session, you will learn about digital exclusion and be able to identify who might be more likely to be digitally excluded. You will develop the confidence to support people in Stockport who are not able to benefit fully from digital and have find out how to signpost people to relevant services. Out and About:
On Monday, we will be supporting the Oldham Drive Estate at their weekly digital group. You are more than welcome to join us to shadow Scott between 10-11am Woodley.
On Tuesday afternoon, James and a number of digital champions support almost 20 local people each week. These sessions are funded by Stockport Homes.
We host a weekly online catch up each Wednesday. Please email james@startpoint.org.uk for details.
On Thursday, we are at Cornerstone supporting to trouble shoot digital issues. There is an opportunity for you to catch up with both James and Scott or put your skills to the test. These sessions are funded by Stockport Homes.
On Friday, James is on hand to support digital champions at our coffee shop in Woodley. Feel free to drop in anytime from 10-12noon or join us for a coffee 12-12.30pm.
