11.15am Heatons Harmonies Video – Singing in the community, from Lips Inked Arts
Heatons Harmonies – a neighbourhood singing project in a Stockport care home. Lips Inked Arts Project Manager and Music Facilitator, Delphine says, “It has been wonderful to work on the Heatons Harmonies project. One of the best things to me, has been to see the residents come together socially, enjoy a shared activity and enjoy tangible improvements in their physical and mental wellbeing as a result of the movement and singing”.
11.30am Stopchordians SMBC Choir Video
Stockport Council staff came together in 2023 to form a work place choir, ‘The Stopchordians’. Led by conductor from the Halle, Louise Ellinson, this choir sings a wide range of songs. They rehearse fortnightly on alternate Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12.30-1.30pm, in Stopford House. Join us to watch a recording of their performance at a recent work place event.
12pm The Gallery Choir
We are proud to share the vocal talents of The Gallery Choir who rehearse at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, every Wednesday evening. This powerhouse is a mixed four part SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass) harmony choir and was established in spring 2012. Led by classically trained Vocal Coach and Musical Director, Lorraine Harris-Roche, you’ll be tapping your toes to popular tracks including Mr Blue Sky and Bohemian Rhapsody along with musical theatre classics, ‘The Rhythm of Life’ from the film Sweet Charity and ‘This Is Me’ from the film The Greatest Showman!
1.15pm James Holt
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, James Holt is no stranger to Stockport, performing at the Armed Forces Day celebration at the Market Place in June and Bask in 2023, James is looking forward to playing a mixture of covers and his own material in the historic War Memorial Art Gallery for Stockport Town of Culture.
With an arresting voice that is reminiscent of John Lennon or early Bob Dylan, wily lyrics and an upbeat weave of rock, prog and blues, the craftsmanship and energy of James’ songwriting translates effortlessly to his stage performance, having performed at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall.
James has the backing of legendary producer Brian Eno and listening public alike, which is confirmed by his song Mystery Girl receiving an impressive two million streams on Spotify! as the Royal Albert Hall and sellout shows
3.20pm – 4pm The Weavers
On the back of the successful ‘Vernon Mill Remembers’ Stockport Town of Culture weekend event, in early March, we welcome local musicians ‘The Weavers’ to Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery for a performance that will transport us back in time to Stockport of old, where the clouds were black, Vernon Mill hummed, and cotton was king.
