Part of our half-term events for mini-makers
This stop-motion workshop explores how you can use your digital skills to bring inanimate objects to life. Stop-motion involves taking a series of still images and then digitally stitching them together to make an animation. We will guide you through the process of creating your own animated masterpiece using tablets and Stop Motion Studio (a free app for animations on tablets), from designing and creating your characters to filming your story.
This hands-on experience provides an unforgettable adventure where every snapshot is a story waiting to be told.
All tools and equipment are provided, and you’ll be sent your animation to keep at the end of the workshop!
Each session takes 1.5 hours. Sign up for one of three sessions on Friday, 31 May:
What you’ll do
Join other budding animators to:
Who’s this for?
Suitable for ages 7+
What do you need to bring?
All equipment is provided. All you need to bring is a sparkling can-do attitude!
Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults do not need to book a ticket. If you have any pre-made characters or props (e.g. play figures) that you would like to use, please feel free to bring them with you.
Cost
This event is free to attend. We charge a £2 booking fee, which is refunded on attending the event. Or, if you prefer, you can leave it as a donation to MadLab CIC to support future community-led events. Refunds will be processed within seven working days. If you cannot afford a ticket, please email makestuff@madlab.org.uk with your name and postcode, and we will be in touch.

About the facilitator
This workshop is led by Sam Bonser and Lucy Corner.
Sam is an illustrator and animator who loves hand-drawn animation, and Lucy is a stop-motion and 2D animator who loves paper cutouts. They are currently studying for a BA in Animation at Manchester Metropolitan University and have a passion for puppets!
