Urban Fronts Heading to Edgeley, thanks to Stockport Town of Culture funding

After an initial launch in Reddish in May of this year, Urban Fronts is set to expand into Edgeley, thanks to funding awarded through Stockport Town of Culture.

Urban Fronts is a public art project developed by Community Interest Company Drawing Board Productions who deliver numerous projects and events to support local communities. Publishers of the Post group of community newspapers, Drawing Board Productions also publish the Arts & Culture Stockport supplement, and deliver numerous projects and events to support local communities.

Working with local artists, the public art project began in Reddish where, to date, six shops have had artwork created on their shutters and two have had artwork on their windows, with more planned before the end of the year. This first stage of the project was funded in part by Stockport Council District Centre Fund or by Greater Manchester Police ARAS Fund, with the remainder funded by the business itself.

The purpose behind Urban Fronts is to bring public art to our local high streets and, in doing so, help to regenerate these areas alongside other projects to improve their look and feel, and help to generate additional footfall for businesses operating locally.

The funding award from Stockport Town of Culture will part fund artwork on a number of shop shutters, frontages or windows within Edgeley District Centre.
