SUMMARY:Making Endometriosis Visible Exhibition Launch
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition exploring the lived experience of endometriosis pain.\nSaturday March 30th – Saturday May 11th 2024\nEndometriosis is a gynaecological condition that causes painful periods\, pelvic pain\, fatigue and poor mental health for 1 in 10 women in the UK.Endometriosis is a gynaecological condition that causes painful periods\, pelvic pain\, fatigue and poor mental health for 1 in 10 women in the UK.\n\n\n\n\nThe ‘Making Endometriosis Visible’ project\, run by Dr Jasmine Hearn at Manchester Metropolitan University Psychology Department and Ian Whadcock at Manchester School of Art\, explored the reliance on verbal language to communicate this invisible pain to others\, aiming to support effective communication surrounding chronic pain. The project’s workshops were held at Arc Centre and facilitated by the artist Helen Mather. Helen lives with endometriosis\, and her recent body of work explores how materials can be used to develop a visual language to explore her own experience with pain. \n\nWithin the workshops\, Helen shared her own creations to help inspire and support participants creatively to make their invisible pain visible through an exciting blend of psychology and art and the participants’ visualisations will be displayed through the launch of an ‘endometriosis pain visualisation toolkit’. \nThis project worked in collaboration with the Manchester Metropolitan Universities Department of Design\, Manchester School of Art\, thanks to funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and support from Endometriosis UK. \nJoin us for the exhibition launch + Saturday Art Club which includes creative activities for ages 3+ at Arc at Hat Works on Saturday March 30th from 11:00-15:00. \nThe exhibition is then open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00-16:00 and Saturdays 11:00-15:00\, in line with Hat Works Cafe opening hours.

SUMMARY:Catalyst: Creative Networking & Fundraising Presentation
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate #WorldMentalHealthDay and as part of Stockport Arts and Health Week\, we’re inviting artists\, community groups and voluntary organisations to come together. Refreshments will be available and before the event you can buy soup and a roll if you need to have dinner beforehand! As well as the opportunity to network\, the evening will also include: \nFunding and Collaboration Advice \nJoin a 30 minute funding advice session where Richard Evans (from Creative Industries Trafford and producer at Cold Star Media) gives a practical guide looking at developing art/science projects – how artists and scientists can find both each other and sources of funding. Richard has a successful track record in raising funds from a range of sources including Arts Council England\, the Wellcome Trust\, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation\, National Lottery Fund for Heritage and Creative UK. The talk will also offer advice on developing successful and long-lasting collaborations. \nIntro to our Arts and Health Micro-Commissions \nWe’ll be launching funding opportunities for creative projects which impact health and wellbeing or create artwork on a health theme for people living in Stockport. These will be briefly introduced on the evening with a more detailed launch and Q&A session hosted online by Arc CEO Jacqui Wood\, on Monday 23d October. \nIntro to our Creative CPD Series \nOver the next 6 months\, we will be offering a programme of creative health CPD sessions\, both online and in person. The CPD programme will be free although donations are needed and much appreciated. Find out how you can sign up to the series to be notified of upcoming sessions. \nThis project is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
