SUMMARY:Stockport Air Raid Shelters - General Admission
DESCRIPTION:Stockport’s intriguing network of underground tunnels offers visitors unparalleled insight into life in 1940s wartime Britain. When the Shelters opened in 1939 with room for 3\,850 people\, they were the largest purpose built civilian shelters in the country. Information panels and authentically recreated settings illustrate the extent of Stockport’s air raid precautions for life on the home front. \n\n\nAccess requirements\nDue to building works nearby\, disabled parking is not available directly outside the Shelters. Entrance to the Air Raid Shelters is through manual\, heavy glass doors. Please knock on the door for assistance with these. An accessible toilet is available for visitors in the reception area. There is level access for all visitors around the Shelters. High traffic areas have reinforced concrete floors. New flooring has been added to reduce sloping\, and aid visitors with a visual impairment but the sandstone floors are uneven and there is a slight slope towards the edges. The sandstone can be softer in some areas and manual wheelchairs may cope better with this floor type.\n\nPrices\n\nAdult £5.50\nChild (Under 16) general admission with activity trail £3.00\nStockport Families Museums Pass £0.00

SUMMARY:Stockport Air Raid Shelters - General Admission
DESCRIPTION:Stockport’s intriguing network of underground tunnels offers visitors unparalleled insight into life in 1940s wartime Britain.
