A year of culture for everyone

Stockport has been named Greater Manchester’s latest Town of Culture following in the footsteps of Bury and Stalybridge.

We want our time as Town of Culture to provide opportunities to be active and creative and celebrate the people, places and stories of Stockport. We want our residents, creatives, businesses, cultural and community organisations to play a key role in shaping our programme which will develop as the year progresses.

Let us know what you want to see
happening in Stockport as part of Town of Culture

Our programme has four strands taking a broad definition of culture and meaning that everybody has an opportunity to take part.

We want Town of Culture to provide opportunities for everybody in Stockport to be active and creative and also give people a chance to try something new. We’ve been asking people what they want to see as part of the programme and will take this into account in our plans.

If you are an artist or creative organisation working in Stockport you may have ideas about how you could contribute to our Town of Culture programme or how it could provide an opportunity for your practice to grow and develop. Let us know how we can make Town of Culture work for you.

    Testimonials

    What are people saying
    about Stockport Town of Culture

“I’ve felt the cultural power of Stockport, and I came to your biggest cultural event in 2019, Edgeley Park, your very own Blossoms, it was one of the best nights I can remember. This year, we just want you to shine in that spotlight that we’ve given you, and it’s about where you’re going and the amazing talent you’ve got to celebrate right now. Someone once said you’re Brooklyn to Manchester’s Manhattan and I think that’s a pretty good place to be. You’re on the up and I hope to come back and back this year.”
