Stunning new mural unveiled in Stockport on the back of Crafted Futures week
A striking new mural has been completed in Stockport following the successful Crafted Futures week, bringing colour, creativity and community spirit to GRIT Studios, Kingston Street in Stockport.
Designed and painted by acclaimed street artist Oskar with a K working with lino print maker Cherry Mae, the large-scale artwork marks the finale of the week-long Crafted Futures programme, which brought together young people, artists, makers and creative organisations to explore heritage skills, modern crafts and new artistic pathways.

Oskar and Cherry’s mural captures the Crafted Futures themes of imagination, resilience, place and identity. Bursting with colour and movement, the piece is now a permanent addition to GRIT Studios’ outdoor gallery, transforming the streetscape and adding to Stockport’s growing reputation as a hub for grassroots creativity.

The mural project formed part of Crafted Futures’ mission to showcase the value of hands-on craft and design to inspire the next generation. Throughout the week, young participants worked with expert makers across disciplines including stone masonry, metalwork, textiles and digital fabrication. Oskar spent time meeting the groups, gathering ideas and feedback, and weaving their concepts into the final mural design.
Oskar with a K said:
Creating this mural as part of Crafted Futures has been brilliant. I wanted the mural to celebrate creativity in all its forms and to reflect the heritage talent growing right here in Stockport.
GRIT Studios, known for its support of emerging artists and its vibrant creative community, provided the wall space and technical support for the installation.
John Macaulay co-founder of GRIT Studios added:
This collaboration embodies everything we value – creativity, community and also celebrates Stockport’s rich heritage, which is still going strong today. Oskar has created something truly special for Stockport.
Crafted Futures was a hugely successful week, connecting young people with traditional and contemporary craft skills, supporting career pathways, and celebrating the cultural value of making. The programme was part funded by UK government.
