Stockport Pride returns – Celebrating our LGBTQ+ community

Stockport Pride takes place this Sunday, 1 June, at Stockport Market Place, celebrating Stockport’s LGBTQ+ community with a day of music, performances, delicious food, and of course an unforgettable parade.

The parade this year starts at 12 noon and will march from the Underbanks towards Merseyway, onto Suffragette Square, past The Light cinema and up Vernon Street to the historic Market Place where Pride festivities await.

This year’s entertainment includes live music, drag acts, crafts, a talk from acclaimed Stopfordian actor, writer and activist Nathaniel J Hall, and, um, a tap dancing nun.

It’s not just about the Market Place though… Stockport’s brand new library and cultural centre Stockroom is also celebrating Pride this weekend. On Saturday, 31 May, crime author L M Krier hosts a special Pride talk and on Sunday there are free creative activities, including a banner-making workshop and a Queer Family Tea with paper flower crafting.

This Friday 30 May is Pride Foodie Friday where they will be honouring the life of beloved Stockport figure Martyn Hett, who lost his life in the Manchester Arena bombing 8 years ago.

With colour, community, and celebration, Stockport Pride is a joyful reminder that Stockport is a place that everyone can be proud to call home.
