Diamond Anniversary Inspires 82-Year-Old’s Charity Walk from Sheffield to Stockport

Diamond Anniversary Inspires 82-Year-Old’s Charity Walk from Sheffield to Stockport

82 year old Stockport resident Keith Mills is marking 60 years of marriage to his wife Jeanette by walking from where they met to where they live now, a distance of around 32 miles! All this in support of ‘Forever Friends of Uganda’, a children’s charity they founded. Most people slow down at 82 – not Keith!

Keith will set off on Friday 30 May from Sheffield Hallam University, where the couple first met as students in the early 1960s, and finish at the Dog & Partridge in Stockport.

The couple’s lifelong dedication to education began with teaching in Manchester, followed by stints in Zambia and Uganda. After founding their charity while living in France, they returned to Stockport in 2017 and have continued to grow its impact with support from local groups like Stockport County FC.

Forever Friends of Uganda now supports 130 children through school sponsorships, has built and renovated schools, established a girls’ skills centre and continues to empower communities.

Keith’s walk is more than just a personal milestone, it’s a tribute to a shared life of love, service, and a mission to change lives.

Keith Said: “This challenge is a bit scary at my age, but also very exciting. Every penny we raise will help to give the children we support a better chance of a meaningful future; something that otherwise would be outside their grasp.”

You can do it Keith!
