Celebrating Foster Care in Stockport – Tracy’s Story
We’re celebrating the incredible work our foster carers do in Stockport by highlighting the inspiring story of Tracy Dwyer. Tracy’s journey to motherhood was a challenging one, but her resilience and unwavering love have led her to a fulfilling family life.
After eight years of trying to get pregnant, including three rounds of IVF treatment, Tracy and her husband were finally blessed with a biological son. But they knew their family wasn’t complete. Determined to give their son siblings, they decided to foster. Over a year ago, Tracy and her husband opened their hearts to two seven-year-old twin girls, who have since become an inseparable part of their family.
Tracy said:
“We knew we wanted a big family and for our son to grow up with brothers and sisters, however we didn’t want to put ourselves through all the pain and heartache of IVF again.
For us, having our foster children completes our family. The first couple of weeks were really challenging while we were getting to know each other, but it didn’t take long before they settled and their personalities shone through. We absolutely love them to bits and they just melt my heart. It’s just the little things like watching the girls read to my son, they’re so good with him.”
The impact of fostering is not just on the children but on Tracy and her family as well. As a full-time foster carer, she finds that fostering has provided her with more time to spend with her son and less stress about work-life balance.
“Before fostering, all my wage went on nursery fees for my son. Fostering gives me more time to spend with my son and enjoy a better quality of life.
As well as helping the children, becoming a foster carer has been good for me and us as a family. We enjoy all the usual family activities like going to a farm or soft-play centre. We go to the park most days after I pick the girls up from school. The kids all love running around with our dog, a bouncy springer spaniel. You can see this in the little things like when the girls decided to make ‘house rules’ themselves, which include things like everyone has to make their beds and say goodnight. It’s those little family moments that melt my heart and make me so happy to be a foster parent.”
We’d like to thank Tracy for sharing her inspiring story and for the incredible work she does.
