Take a walk with Life Leisure and ‘Let’s Explore Our Great Outdoors’
As summer draws to a close, Stockport residents are continuing to use local outdoor spaces to explore and enjoy our great outdoors.
One organisation encouraging people to take part in a variety of outdoor activities is Life Leisure, a Community Interest Company (CIC) wholly owned by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
Take a Walk with Life Leisure
Life Leisure have a packed schedule of walks on the current timetable. These include a weekly walk into Reddish Vale on a Monday morning and a Monday afternoon walk in Vernon Park.
On Wednesday afternoons Life Leisure run a community walk from Stockport Sports Village into Woodley woods and, for the next few Thursdays from 10am-12pm, they offer an organised walk starting at ‘What If’ Café walking round the local area, including the park and by the river.

Monthly Wellness Walks
Life Leisure hold a monthly wellness walk on the first Saturday of the month. Details for the next few months:
- September 7th
Meet Outside Woodley Civic Hall, Hyde Road, Woodley SK6 1QG – Walking into Haughton Dale and by the canal. - October 5th
Meet in Vernon Park – facing British Gas, Turncroft Lane, Offerton SK1 4AR – Walking through the Valley - November 2nd
Meet at Life Leisure Hazel Grove, Jacksons Lane, Hazel Grove SK7 5JW – Walking into Happy Valley - December 7th – Meet at Life Leisure Brinnington Park, Northumberland Road, Brinnington SK5 8LS – Walking into Reddish Vale
All the walks are the 1st Saturday of the month, meeting between 9.30am-9.45am and set off to walk at 10am. Each route is planned for 2-2.hrs in duration.
Take a hike on Kinder Scout
For the more adventurous, an additional walk is planned for Sunday Sept 22nd. The group will be walking Kinder Scout. A more challenging walk, meet at Edale car park at 10.30am for the walk which will take between 4-5 hours. Parking is available for the few who will be driving with others travelling by train from Brinnington.
