Summer of Sport gets Stockport ready – Let’s Explore Our Great Outdoors

Just ahead of One Stockport’s Let’s Explore Our Great Outdoors summer campaign, Merseyway’s Summer of Sport got underway in Stockport this weekend when people of all ages joined in the fun at Merseyway’s own, specially built pop-up Olympic Park.

Running tracks, the long jump, trampolining and Shuffle Board were just a few of the many activities that were enjoyed over the Olympic’s opening weekend.

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager said:

“We’re thrilled to see such an incredible turnout for the launch of our Summer of Sport. The positive response from the community has been overwhelming and it’s fantastic to see people coming together to celebrate the joy of sports and active living. Our goal was to create an inclusive and dynamic event that everyone could enjoy, and judging by the increased footfall, we achieved just that.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to grab a Sporty Stockport Passport, which are available to collect at locations across Merseyway. Children can keep a diary of all the sports-related activities they’ve taken part in this summer to see just how active they’ve been, and a competition via Merseyway’s social channels will offer those taking part the chance to win a variety of sports-themed prizes!”

From sprinting, hurdles, long jump, rhythm gymnastics, climbing and more, children can try out a whole host of sports on at this year’s Olympics in Paris, with all activities completely free to take part.

Merseyway indoor pop-up Olympic Park is open throughout the summer featuring a running track, winner’s podium and basketball hoop, with additional sports activities running every Wednesday from 7 August – 28 August.

Over at Viaduct Park, located on top of the town’s new transport interchange, there will be a range of free sports activities on offer every Thursday from 8 August – 29 August.

Free sports-themed crafting sessions will also be taking place at each event at too, with activities taking place from 11am – 3pm at both locations.

Children can pick up their very own free ‘Sporty Stockport Passport’, available at locations across Merseyway, where they can keep a diary of all the sports-related activities they’ve taken part in this summer to see just how active they’ve been.
