Learn more about becoming a foster parent during Foster Care Fortnight 2024

Foster Care Fortnight™ is The Fostering Network’s annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering and show how foster care transforms lives.

Stockport Council is supporting Foster Care Fortnight 2024 and raising awareness of the benefits and valuable difference foster carers can make between Monday 13 May – Sunday 26 May.

During the two weeks the fostering team in Stockport and local foster carers will be hosting events and drop in sessions:

  • Wednesday 15 May – Fostering information session at Stockport Town Hall, starting at 6pm.
  • Friday 17 May – information stand at John Lewis Cheadle between 11am and 1 pm.
  • Saturday 18 May – Foster Walk at Vernon Park starting at 12 noon (by café)
  • Sunday 19 May – fostering stall at Bramhall Duck Race and Family Fun
  • Friday 24 May – information stand at Stepping Hill Hospital (by canteen) between 11am and 1 pm.
  • Saturday 25 May – Worker Bee Market, Reddish

Local foster carers will be sharing their proudest fostering moments on local radio and on social media channels.

Get involved

Whether you’re a foster carer, a social worker, young person, Fostering Friendly employer or supporter of foster care, you are part of a community making a real difference to the lives of young people, and we want you all to get involved in the Foster Care Fortnight celebration.

Throughout the fortnight we’re keen to encourage people to come forward and consider becoming a foster carer, someone who is able to foster our children aged 0 to 18. We’re particularly looking for people who can foster:

  • older children
  • siblings
  • children with additional needs

If you feel that you could become part of our fostering community and help make special moments for our children, young people, and of course yourself, we’d love to hear from you during the campaign!

To make an enquiry, or for more information about fostering and our monthly information sessions, visit our website www.stockport.gov.uk/fostering or email fosteringstockport@stockport.gov.uk or call the fostering recruitment team on 0161 474 3400.

Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign, delivered by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. Established in 1997, the campaign showcases the commitment, passion, and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services to highlight the need for more foster carers. Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children, with the greatest need being for foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children, and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

This year’s theme is #FosteringMoments.

Foster Care Fortnight 2024 is a chance to celebrate the moments that define fostering journeys, big and small. The moments that built confidence, made young people feel safe and created memories because every moment matters in fostering.

Whether you’re a foster carer, a social worker, young person, Fostering Friendly employer or supporter of foster care, you are part of a community making a real difference to the lives of young people, and we want you all to get involved in the Foster Care Fortnight celebration.
