Hundreds of less fortunate children and young adults provided with gifts for Christmas as Stockport shoppers donate £50,000 worth of presents to Merseyway’s Giving Tree

Merseyway’s annual Giving Tree has once again proven to be a huge success with more than 3,000 presents being provided to local children and young adults, ready for them to open on Christmas Day.

Located in the undercover mall outside Specsavers, shoppers were able to donate a gift for a less fortunate child in the local community by selecting a gift tag from a giant, white Christmas tree. Each tag provided the age of the child along with a present they hoped to receive from their Christmas list.

Thousands of local shoppers took part in the campaign, donating a wide range of gifts, including toys, books, games, pyjamas, slippers and more, worth more than £50,000, which were distributed to local children via local schools, food banks and charities.

Merseyway Centre Manager, Victoria Nichol said

“Christmas is a time for giving and our Giving Tree provides Merseyway shoppers with the opportunity to provide those who are less fortunate within our community with something special to open on Christmas Day. Once again, we are thrilled and overwhelmed with the level of participation in this charity initiative and deeply touched by the generosity of our shoppers. Each year, so many people go above and beyond, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part.”
