Fun Palaces Invites Everyone to Try New Activities at Stockport Libraries

To celebrate the start of Libraries Week, this year’s Fun Palaces event takes place on Saturday 2ndOctober – and everyone is invited!

Hosted by Bredbury Library and One Stockport Hub, the Fun Palaces event is designed to let everybody try their hand at a skill they might not have tried before.

From coding to felt-making, steel drums to slime making, there’ll be a range of activities on offer to try out led by expert members of the Stockport community. Members of the Women’s Association will be in attendance sharing skills in writing and creative journaling, and the Ebony and Ivory Community Association will be teaching visitors how to play the traditional African drums.

The event takes place from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 2nd October, and everyone is welcome to come and try something new. It is hoped that people from all walks of life will come along and enjoy the free event.

Now in its fifth year in Stockport, the Fun Palaces event is part of a national programme built on the ethos that ‘everyone is an artist or scientist’, and that creativity in the community can change the world for better.

It’s the perfect precursor to National Libraries Week, which kicks off from Monday 4th October.

Councillor David Sedgwick, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement at Stockport Council, commented:

“This should be a fantastic event to bring people from all corners of the community together. We have so much talent here in Stockport and the Fun Palaces event allows everyone to share their skills and make new community connections. I encourage everyone to pop along and try something new: who knows, you might discover a new passion!”
