Chads Theatre celebrates centenary with packed season and open invitations!

Chads Theatre, founded as Cheadle Hulme Amateur Dramatic Society just after the first world war, is celebrating its 100th season with a packed programme and an invitation for budding thespians, set builders, dress makers and producers to take to the stage as they enter a new era.

Although Chads is officially 102 years old, it has only ever missed two seasons in its entire history of performing: at the start of the second world war and last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In this, its 100th season, Chads are delighted to be back performing and throwing open the doors to their classic theatre on Mellor Road in Cheadle Hulme to welcome old and new audiences. With an exciting programme lined up for the new season, audiences of all ages will be royally entertained by the amazingly talented company as they perform an abundance of shows. A full programme of entertainment for their special centenary season can be found on Chads website

As well as attracting bigger audiences, Chads are looking to recruit new members of all ages although they are especially keen to attract ‘younger’ enthusiastic under 50-year-olds with fresh ideas.

While the performances had to stop when Covid broke out, the company members took their foot off the brakes and carried out substantial improvements in the theatre including renewing the electrics, decorating and adding a splash of colour to the front of house areas and installing banquette seating that has increased capacity by 35%. Outside, a green fingered team not only smartened up the garden, they also buried a time capsule for future thespians to enjoy!

So, if you have some time on your hands, want to try something new or brush up on forgotten skills, why not join the Chads family, make new friends and put your talents to good use, on and off the stage. Chads heart is in presenting seven seasonal performances for everyone to enjoy and members can become involved in every aspect of the performances: creating the sets, designing costumes, backstage duties, sound & lighting, front of house areas and even managing the bar!

If you’d like to resurrect your acting, woodworking, electrical or dress designing skills, contact membership@chads.co.uk who will arrange to show you around the theatre and introduce to its facilities.
