Stockport Spiderman – how it all started!

Stockport Spiderman – how it all started!

Dressing as Spider-Man throwing kicks and flips for the kids and big kids lockeddown indoors has brought so many smiles as well as trying my best to keep people active at home with online training classes.

Lifes a journey…..a little back story from Jason Baird – aka Stockport Spiderman

I wanted to write a little post to show where Spidey all started with me personally from when I was a kid.

Photo 1 is of myself aged 6 in Gorton Methodist Church with my first Sensei Tom Scott. Enrolled in Martial arts to defend myself by my Parents and inspired by Spider-Man & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I wanted to be the best I could be even at this young age.

My goal was to be a Black belt, I achieved this aged 10 and then went on to compete for another club winning my first World title in Toronto Canada aged 11, from here the rest is history.

Retired from competing after winning 18x World titles, open my own academy JBBBA in 2002 and changed my goals to helping as many people I could with their own personal WHYS.

Move on to today in lockdowns and Martial arts is still helping others even though they probably don’t realise it. Dressing as Spider-Man throwing kicks and flips for the kids and big kids lockeddown indoors has brought so many smiles as well as trying my best to keep people active at home with online training classes.

It’s safe to say that Martial arts isn’t just a hobby or a career for me, Martial arts IS me and without it I most certainly wouldn’t be the person I am today and I don’t think Stockport Spider-Men would be the same and still going. I think the fact we actually ‘move’ like Spidey helped us hugely in generating the huge exposure we got and still get to this date.

I’m thankful for all martial arts has taught me, grateful for all it has brought me and blessed for all the things I am due to recieve from its impact on my life.

Once lockdown is lifted I would highly encourage ALL Parents to get your children enrolled in to a sporting club. It doesn’t have to be my martial arts academy but having something like this in your children’s lives really is invaluable.

Today I show gratitude to everything it has brought me.

Jason aka Spidey
