Gift your old smartphone to help in the community

If you can spare a smartphone that you no longer use, you’ll be helping the digitally excluded in Stockport, while also helping to reduce e-waste.

Did you get a new smartphone for Christmas?  If you’re not sure what to do with your old one, it could be a lifeline to someone.

Stockport Council is working with Hubbub’s Community Calling scheme and Starting Point, part of the DigiKnow alliance tackling digital exclusion in Stockport, to distribute recycled smartphones to vulnerable households who don’t have access to the internet.

If you can spare a smartphone that you no longer use, you’ll be helping the digitally excluded in Stockport, while also helping to reduce e-waste. The phone just needs to have an intact screen and charge properly – and if you can include the charger, even better. You can drop your old smartphone off at any open Stockport library or post it.

Phones will be refurbished and passed on to people who need them, together with 12 months of free credit, provided by O2. For a freepost envelope or any further information on the scheme, follow the link below.
